A Spiritual Approach to the Holidays

Joyful givingThis year, I want to encourage you to use your holiday giving as a vehicle for the expression of your spirituality. I highly recommend that you avoid the glamour of consumerism and giving of “things” for the sake of having a gift for someone. It would be far better to give something from the heart that benefits the recipient at a deeper level.

There are many options that don’t involve giving things, some include:
- Make a donation to charity in the person’s name
- Visit websites such as www.worldvisiongifts.org and purchase an animal for a third-world family in someone’s name

Give the gift of services, there are many marvelous practitioners who would also benefit:
- Purchase a massage for a stressed out friend
- Gift an acupuncture treatment to someone with anxiety
- Buy a gift certificate for aromatherapy, or sound healing, or any number of other healing modalities

If you would prefer a physical gift, consider consciousness-raising books like:
- The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell
- A New World by Ekhart Tolle
- Your Essential Whisper by LaRue Eppler and Vanessa Tabor Wesley

Or healing books such as:
- Energy Medicine by Donna Eden
- Your Hands Can Heal You by Master Stephen Co
